What is I.C.E.Y. - H.O.P.E.?
In the summer of 2009, Jonathan came up with another idea for helping the environment. While GoGreen Man was getting the idea of helping the environment out to the youth in school, he knew there were many youth already doing what they could to make a difference.
I.C.E.Y. - H.O.P.E. is the name of his youth environmental organzation. It stands for International Cooperation of Environmental Youth and it's motto is - Helping Our Polluted Earth. As Jonathan says, if you put the two acronyms together, when spoken, it sounds like "I see hope."
This year, Jonathan decided he needed to go to North Korea to submit an idea for a Children's Peace Forest. He had been studying about the Korean War and knew that the country has been divided for the past 60 years and it saddened him. In addition, his interaction with former South Korean president and Nobel Peace Laureate Kim Dae Jung regarding North Korea, made an impression on him. President Kim's desire for peaceful reunification helped inspire Jonathan to present his wish for the Children's Peace Forest in the DMZ.
Jonathan believes there is hope on the Korean peninsula. If you feel the same way and would like to do something (volunteer, etc.), he'd love to hear from you! If you would like to make a donation, I.C.E.Y. is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, so U.S. donations would be tax deductible.
