Korean Oil Spill

In Seoul on December 13, 7,000 volunteers tried to clean up the oil caused by a barge that smashed into a supertanker in Korea. The oil  caused a lot of damage because they can't grow sea crops for a few years, and that the fish and the birds were dying from the sticky oil.

The oil spill was made of 260,000 barrels, or 11 million gallons, so you can see from the pictures above that it is very hard to clean up!  That's why we need to find a cleaner energy source (like solar power, water power and wind power) so things like this wont happen again.

Also, kids can help clean up too because kids are the future so, - let's help save the world together!

Here's a letter that I wrote to the Koreans that are helping to clean up.

Hello!

I’m Jonathan, the creator of GoGreen Man.

I watched Korean news with my dad and saw the oil spill caused by the wrecked boat.  I also saw lots of hard working Koreans trying to clean it up and the birds and fish with globs of oil on them.  I was sorry to hear about the oil spill.  I wish I could go to Korea to help clean it up!  It seems that the oil is very hard to clean up, but because many Korean people are trying to sop up all the oil - it might be possible to clean it all up!

I would like to donate some of my money that I have saved to help out a little with the clean up.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Lee
